Call for Abstracts

In greenhouses and vertical farming, environmental control based on plant physiology can provide crops with a suitable environment even if the outside environment is unsuitable. This allows for several times higher productivity per area than open-field cultivation. Although there are many advantages in greenhouses and vertical farming, there are some issues to be resolved, such as rising energy and material prices due to uncertainty in the world situation, responding to global warming and extreme weather due to climate change, energy and CO2 emissions, and labor shortages. This symposium focusses on smart greenhouses and vertical farming, and covers current knowledge and technologies on innovative technologies and production strategies. Innovative technologies used in smart greenhouses and vertical farming will be covered, including engineering technologies such as sensing, mechanization, and robotics, autonomous control using AI and ICT, environmental control based on plant physiology, production strategies using modeling, and technologies to improve energy efficiency.

The following topics will be developed during the symposium:
