Call for Abstracts

Postharvest biology and technology is an important field that not only solves social issues such as food loss reduction, quality preservation, and distribution efficiency, but also contributes significantly to reducing environmental impact and realizing a recycling-oriented society. In recent years, this field has been attracting attention to molecular biological approaches such as epigenetics and omics analysis, as well as new technologies utilizing IoT and AI, along with clarification of mechanisms that inhibit postharvest senescence and disease. This symposium will cover a wide range of topics from basic to applied science based on fruits, vegetables and ornamental crops storage technology, freshness retention, food safety, and plant physiology. Integrating preharvest and postharvest approaches to maintain/enhance quality and storage life will be covered in the scope. The latest findings and technologies related to the pursuit of sustainability, contribution to health promotion, and environmental conservation will also be covered.

The following topics will be developed during the symposium:

  • Basic research and applications for postharvest senescence suppression
  • Advanced technology using omics, non-thermal, AI and IoT for quality preservation
  • Sustainable cool chain and packaging for minimising environmental impacts
  • Innovative approaches for postharvest disease and disorder management in fresh produce
  • Postharvest technology for health promotion
  • Minimising food loss and waste to promote circular economy
  • Innovations in fresh-cut produce and food safety
  • Preharvest technology to improve postharvest quality and storage potential
  • Sensory science and applications to understand and enhance consumer experiences
  • Postharvest phytosanitary treatments to enhance international market access
