Call for Abstracts

Today, ornamental plants are not simply used to decorate gardens or houses, but also create significant value in environmental, industrial, and cultural aspects. In a world of transitions, the ornamental sector has to face important challenges such as global climate change, sustainable production with reduced environmental impact, and the introduction of innovative technologies.

Continuing from the previous symposium, this symposium will cover various levels of innovations in the ornamental sector regarding sustainable production systems, breeding and propagation methods in production context, marketing strategies of ornamentals, market development, and new uses.

The following topics will be developed during the symposium:

  • Innovations in ornamental plant breeding [conventional breeding, genetics, genomic breeding, gene editing, gene modification, biotechnology, wild germplasm conservation and utilization]
  • Sustainable production systems [growth and flowering control, irrigation and fertilization, pest and disease control, in vivo and in vitro propagation, plant nutrition, growing conditions, IoT and AI technology, biostimulants, climate change, new approach to reduce environmental impact (air, water, soil, etc.)]
  • Pre- and post-harvest innovations in ornamentals [new insights in pre- and post-harvest physiology, innovations in post-harvest technology, engineering, high throughput & non-destructive phenotyping and robotics, Interactions between pre- and post-harvest factors]
  • New uses of ornamental plants [new approaches to commercializing ornamental products and improving the market, business with ornamentals, consumption of ornamentals, landscape performance, well-being, health and nutrition]

The following topics will be developed during the symposium:

  • Innovations in ornamental plant breeding
  • Sustainable production systems using smart technologies
  • Pre- and post-harvest innovations in ornamentals
  • New uses of ornamental plants
