Call for Abstracts
This symposium will focus on the diversification of vegetable production systems and on the advancement of new growing solutions aimed at enhancing the sustainability of current farming systems. Diversified agricultural systems employing agroecological approaches and climate smart solutions are critical to establish more efficient, resilient, and secure food systems capable of feeding the growing world population while mitigating climate change, resource limitations, emerging pests and pathogens, and social challenges.
We welcome scientific contributions aimed at examining: i) the effects of diversified vegetable production systems (including new crops, crop rotations, the use of cover crops, intercropping, etc.); ii) novel sustainable vegetable growing techniques (including, climate smart solution, data-driven and artificial intelligence technologies, biological solutions and strategies, agronomic biofortification, alternative growing systems) on plant growth and physiology, soil-plant-microbiome interactions, nutrient cycling and soil health, water, energy, and nutrient use efficiency, the suppression of weeds and other soilborne pests and pathogens, push and pull strategy and other sustainable pest and pathogen management; iii) crop yield and quality performance, crop nutrient content and secondary metabolite profile, novel vegetable products. Moreover, the quality of sustainable vegetable supply chain, in terms of sensorial, nutritive and nutraceutical properties, will be object of attention along with the sustainability of vegetable crop systems across different production scales.
The following topics will be developed during the symposium:
- Diversified and innovative vegetable farming systems
- Characterization and valorization of agrobiodiversity resources as new crops
- Vegetable response to environmental stressors and climate smart farming solutions
- Precision agriculture solutions for the efficient management of water and nutrient resources
- Organic and regenerative vegetable production systems
- Soil management and soil health promoting solutions
- Sustainable pest and pathogen management/control
- Vegetable nutritional composition and nutraceutical quality attributes
- Vegetable agronomic biofortification
- Quality of produce and novel vegetable food products
