Call for Abstracts

The increasing impacts of global warming pose significant challenges to citrus and tropical fruit production, including physiological disorders, increased susceptibility to pests and diseases, and yield instability. However, these climate shifts also create opportunities for introducing tropical and subtropical fruits into new production regions, thereby expanding the geographical scope of fruit cultivation. This symposium brings together experts in breeding, climate science, and genomics to address these critical issues through cutting-edge research and innovation. Topics include the development of climate-resilient cultivars, the use of advanced breeding techniques and genome editing to enhance pest and disease resistance, and the application of climate forecasting models to mitigate weather-related risks. The symposium will also explore emerging fruit crops with potential for commercial cultivation and strategies for adapting traditional tropical fruits to non-traditional growing regions. Special attention will be given to the challenges and opportunities of tropical fruit production in temperate zones, including innovative protected cultivation systems, precision agriculture technologies, and smart farming solutions. By bridging science and practice, this symposium aims to establish a comprehensive framework for sustainable fruit production in the face of climate change, ensuring global food security and agricultural sustainability while promoting fruit crop diversification across different climatic zones.
